Why the ADA National Championships?
Twenty-nine years of producing the largest and most respected National Championships is the key. It is one of the original Performing Arts Competition in the country. Gloria Jean and the dedicated ADA staff offer a keen understanding of what school owners, dancers and their parents are looking for! ELIGIBILITY: All Silver and Gold medal winners at regional ADA events are in the US and Canada are eligible.

AMERICA'S DANCER OF THE YEAR TITLES AT NO EXTRA CHARGE!
At the national level there is more $8,000.00 in cash scholarships...
Each regional Dancer of the Year Winner will receive an official ADA winner’s
jacket and a trophy. The next level of competition will be the ADA National Championships, where winners from each regional event in the US and Canada will vie for the title of America’s Dancer of the Year 2009.
At the national level the Dancer of the Year regional winners enjoy a dance experience like no other!
THE OPENING NUMBER
It's the opportunity to work with a professional choreographer to create an "opening number spectacular" performed at both the title events and the ADA banquets. The experience builds wonderful camaraderie among the dancers and friendships that last a lifetime. Capezio/Ballet Makers and ADA supply the wardrobe for the opening number.
THE VIDEO INTRODUCTION
Each contestant will create a personal video introduction for their performance to be broadcast on large screens throughout the auditorium (at each title event) to introduce their performance. The videos are created at the championships and are taped by Donner Photographic.
THE SOUVENIR PROGRAM BOOK
Each Dancer of the Year contestants photograph will be featured in the American Dance Awards National Championship Souvenir Program. They will receive a keepsake copy of the program.
THE ADJUDICATED CLASSES
In an effort to choose the best technical dancer, ADA presents special classes for each group of contestants. The title judges adjudicate the classes and will utilize those scores in addition to a performance score to determine the winners. A ballet, tap, jazz, modern and acrobatics class is offered in each age level. Each contestant is required to participate in at least two, but may choose three or four; however only the top two scores will be utilized in the final tabulation. There will be specific high score class awards for dancers who achieve the top scores.
RULES & REQUIREMENTS
If a title winner is unable to attend the national competition, the first runner-up will become eligible.
2009 Junior, Teen and Dancer winners must arrive at the ADA championships by 12:00 noon on July 5th for orientation and rehearsals. Young Dancer winners must arrive on the morning of July 6th.
All contestants (except Young Dancer of the Year) will attend orientation, all rehearsals, the "scored" classes and all other activities pertaining to their respective age level or they will not be eligible for the title.
Two 5x7 vertical black & white "head-shots" with a white background are required from each contestant.
All title winners will receive a FREE unlimited class card. Young Dancer of the Year will receive a FREE five class card (above and beyond the title classes) for the classes and workshops offered at the Championships.
Title contestants may not compete the same solo they perform in the title competition at any other time during the national championships. Different solos will be accepted for the national championships.
Dancer of the Year regional winners may compete any solo they choose for the America’s Dancer of the Year event. It does not have to be the solo they won with.
The entry fee for all Junior, Teen and Dancer to participate in the national event is $175.00 (U.S. funds). Entry fee for Young Dancer of the Year (7-9) is $125.00 (U.S. funds)

ADA Dance-off the Ultimate Challenge
The top scoring entries from each category (solo, duo/trio, small group, large group, etc. ) from each room (team) of competition will perform in a special Dance-off Show. . Cash award winners are determined by this performance. The 12 & under dance-off is usally on day 5 and the 13 & over on day 7.
Dance-off participants are determined by the total of the performance score only.
The number of Dance Off participants is based on the following:
2 Teams= 7 from each category
3 Teams = 5 from each category
No soloist will perform more than once in the dance-off. No duos can be the same dancers. Studios are allowed only 3 routines per category in the danceoff. The 4th routine will be dropped if qualified for the DanceOff.

CONVENTION:
ADA offers a full convention along with the championship competition. With over 60 workshop classes and an all-star faculty the week is an educational and motivating experience for every dancer. All participating dancers will receive FREE Classes. Dancers with a fee of $100.00 or less will receive 3 FREE class card. Dancers with a fee or $101.00 or more will receive a FREE 5 class card. Additional cards may be purchased as well as an upgrade to an unlimited class card will be available. Unlimited card for 5 free classes students - $40.00. Unlimited card for 3 free class card students - $50.00. We suggest early registration for the convention, as classes will be limited. Classes are held almost every day and will be divided by age levels.

Paperwork Deadline:
All entrants who participated in a preliminary competition before April 15 have a deadline of May 10th. All entrants after April 15th have a deadline of May 25th.
Fee Deadline:
All fees, including food functions, class cards, etc. must be in the ADA National Office by June 1st.
